Lalish Temple, nestled in the picturesque Shekhan district of the Duhok Governorate, Iraq, stands as the holiest temple of the Yazidis, a vital pilgrimage site for this resilient ethnic and religious community. Perched above the historic town of Shekhan, once a thriving Yazidi settlement before the dark shadow of ISIL persecution descended, Lalish lies approximately 60 kilometers north of Mosul and 14 kilometers west of Ayn Sifna village. Set against the backdrop of three majestic mountains—Hizrat to the west, Misat to the south, and Arafat to the north—this sacred sanctuary commands an altitude of about 1,000 meters above sea level.
